Technology that changes hands.
Education that changes futures.

We turn retired professional computers into sustainable digital classrooms, training the healthcare professionals Togo needs.

Join the crowdfunding campaign

Every contribution brings the three digital classrooms in Afagnan closer. You can help from wherever you are, in a minute.

ONE COMPUTER.
A NEW STORY.

We recover computers that companies no longer use, wipe them securely, refurbish them and set them up with educational software. We then ship them to Togo, where they become learning infrastructure for students and teachers.

We don’t send electronic waste.
We create opportunities to learn.

HOW LIFE BOOK AFRICA BEGAN

01

Medical Open World travels to Togo in April 2026

Medical Open World runs an expedition to Togo to deliver 10 incubators, and sees first-hand the reality of the Saint John of God Hospital in Afagnan.

02

The Afagnan hospital identifies a need

Brother Claude Amana, director of the Afagnan hospital, raises the need to improve access to computers and digital tools for training its 150 nursing students.

03

We take on the challenge

Alfredo Caballero, a Medical Open World volunteer who had seen this reality first-hand during the expedition, decided to take on the challenge and build a team able to turn that need into a sustainable project.

04

LIFE BOOK AFRICA is born

Out of that collaboration, that experience on the ground and one concrete need, LIFE BOOK AFRICA is born.

A PROJECT BORN OF COOPERATION

LIFE BOOK AFRICA has the support of Medical Open World, the association that made possible the trip on which we learned first-hand what the Afagnan hospital needs.

One expedition revealed a need.
That need gave rise to LIFE BOOK AFRICA.

TOGO

West Africa, between the Atlantic and the Sahel

Togo is a West African country on the Gulf of Guinea. It borders Ghana, Benin and Burkina Faso, and its capital is Lomé. Around 9.5 million people live in this narrow, diverse strip of land.

French is the official language, and Ewe and Kabiye are among the most widely spoken. It is a young population with a growing need for training, employment and healthcare professionals.

AFAGNAN

In the south of the country, some 80 kilometres from Lomé, lies Afagnan. There, the Saint John of God Hospital and its nursing school train the professionals who will care for thousands of people.

THE DIGITAL DIVIDE

Limited access to computers and digital tools makes it harder to consult up-to-date content, learn through multimedia and build technical skills. LIFE BOOK AFRICA wants to turn available technology into new educational opportunities.

TOGO IN FIGURES

Understanding the context is the first step towards real impact.

A young population and a still-significant digital divide make it necessary to improve access to digital tools and strengthen the training of new healthcare professionals.

Travel is paid for individually by each participant and is not part of the project budget.

Each computer can serve successive intakes of students for years. The impact doesn’t stop with one person: it multiplies with every healthcare professional trained, and every patient they go on to treat.

FROM COMPANY TO CLASSROOM

Every machine goes through a complete technical process before it becomes an educational tool.

01

Collection

Companies and organisations donate professional computers they no longer use.

02

Secure wiping

We securely erase all information stored on the machine.

03

Technical inspection

We check the components, replace what needs replacing, install Windows 11 and set up the educational software.

04

Inventory and configuration

We record, label and configure each computer for classroom use.

05

Shipping, installation and training

The equipment travels to Afagnan, is installed in the classrooms, and teaching staff are trained to use and maintain it independently.

EQUIPMENT WITH GUARANTEED QUALITY

Target: 120 refurbished professional computers

Every machine we receive goes through a complete technical process before it is shipped. No device leaves unless it passes every check.

Technical inspection

Full check of physical and functional condition.

Cleaning and refurbishment

Deep cleaning and component replacement where needed.

Inventory and serial number

Individual record of each machine’s technical specification.

Windows 11 and educational software

Operating system and essential learning tools installed.

Individual labelling

A unique code assigned and a final quality check.

OUR COMMITMENT

We will only ship fully working equipment. LIFE BOOK AFRICA is not a channel for disposing of electronic waste: it is a responsible process for transforming technology with a purpose.

Guaranteed quality. Technology with purpose. A future for more people.

REMOTE MANAGEMENT (MDM)

This is not a one-off donation. Every computer will include a remote management system that keeps the classrooms running from Spain.

An infrastructure that stays connected, secure, scalable and built to last.

01

Monitoring

Check the state of each machine, see whether it is connected, and spot problems early.

02

Remote maintenance

Install software, update the operating system, create users and change settings without travelling.

03

Educational content

Distribute new teaching materials and learning resources to every computer in the classroom.

04

Troubleshooting

Diagnose technical problems and support the local team from Pamplona to keep the service running.

ROLLOUT PLAN

October 2026

First digital classroom, 40 computers

This phase covers shipping the equipment, installing the classroom, configuring the network and providing initial training for teaching staff.

Spring 2027

Two more digital classrooms, 80 computers

The second phase completes all three classrooms, assesses the first results and consolidates the remote management and support system.

GET INVOLVED

There are many ways to join LIFE BOOK AFRICA. Choose the one that suits you and help us turn technology into educational opportunity.

INDIVIDUALS

Help us fund refurbishment, shipping, batteries, chargers, insurance, networking equipment and classroom installation.

Participants’ flights and personal expenses are not funded from these contributions.

The crowdfunding campaign is now open.

VOLUNTEERING

Join an expedition and help install the classrooms, deliver training and support students and teachers.

A technical background is not essential. French or English is an advantage. Each participant pays for their own travel.
